Practice Session is a desktop music practice app that lets you slow down audio without changing pitch, loop specific sections, and transpose to any key — with features designed for structured, efficient practice.

Features
  • Custom practice sequences: combine multiple song sections into a single loop, each with independent speed, pitch, and volume settings.
  • Speed training: automatically increases tempo with each loop repetition to build technique progressively.
  • Key Acrobat: transposes your practice through all 12 keys automatically, useful for jazz standards and improvisation training.
  • Unlimited regions visible on the waveform, organized into groups, with all settings saved per song.
  • 8-band parametric EQ for isolating instruments during transcription.
  • Automatic A440 tuning correction for recordings that are sharp or flat.
  • Lyrics manager with timestamped sync, LRC import, and online search via LRCLIB.
  • Notation manager supporting MusicXML and Guitar Pro files, with bar grid overlay and sync to audio playback.
  • Import/export of complete practice setups, making it easy for teachers to share practice materials with students.
  • Customizable keyboard shortcuts and drag-and-drop workflow.

This release focuses on trust and polish: Practice Session is now officially signed and verified on both macOS and Windows, eliminating security warnings during installation. Several usability improvements round out the update. Signed & Verified

  • macOS: App is now Apple notarized — installs and launches without security warnings or Terminal workarounds
  • Windows: Executable is now signed with Microsoft Azure Trusted Signing — no more SmartScreen "Unknown publisher" warnings
Improvements
  • Audio engine tip banner: When speed drops below 0.5x, a helpful banner suggests switching to WaveSurfer or ScriptProcessor mode for better audio quality (ScriptProcessor is always recommended below 0.3x)
  • Pitch controls visible in WaveSurfer mode: Controls now remain visible but greyed out instead of disappearing, making it clear pitch shifting is not available in this mode
  • Right-click context menu on greyed-out pitch controls: Options to hide controls for the current session or permanently
  • New setting: "Show Pitch Controls in WaveSurfer Mode" allows re-enabling visibility after hiding
  • Tuning analysis improvements: Modal now opens even with low confidence results (with a warning displayed), and the button shows a spinner during analysis
